Top Robot Vacuums and Mop Combos

While robots won't be able to replace a conventional vacuum for picking up dirt-in particles like metal screws and pieces of orzo pasta, they're great at sweeping dust, crumbs and hair from pets. The best models have intelligent navigation and a feature to avoid objects that help them maneuver around cords, toys and other household obstacles.

1. iRobot Roomba i3+ EVO

The iRobot Roomba i3+ is a great robot vacuum with several smart features that make it easier to maintain. Its automatic bin emptying is one of the most convenient features we've seen in an iRobot, and it works well on both hard floors and carpets. It's also easy to install and use and the app will guide you through the process step-by-step. Another notable feature is its ability to return to where it left off in our tests--it did this for 77 minutes in one cleaning before running out of battery.

In contrast to other robovacs that we tested, the i3+ EVO features a self-emptying bin that dumps debris into an external dirt compartment on its charging base when it's full. This makes it easier to maintain the unit and keeps the i3+ EVO from overfilling, but it still requires manually empty after each cleaning session. The i3+ EVO's built-in dust bin holds 2.4L of waste and is enough to get it through four or five cleaning sessions before needing to replace it.

This model, like the i7, utilizes state-of-the-art floor-tracking sensors to produce maps. It also lets you navigate in neat rows. The Q5 Pro comes with a large dust bin of 770ml, meaning that you won't have to empty it as frequently as other 2-in-1 robots. The 240-minute runtime is extremely generous when compared to other models we've examined. When the battery is running low, it returns automatically to its dock, where it recharges and resumes cleaning where it left off. You can control the Q5 Pro using the app or voice commands with Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant.

This is one of the first robots we've seen to incorporate 3D mapping. That, combined with some other innovations, makes it perform exceptionally well during our mopping and vacuuming tests. You can schedule cleanings and set up no-go zones. You can also check the status of your battery. The app is easy to use, however it does not support Apple HomeKit. That feature is scheduled to be added in 2025. Apple updated its website's footnote in November of this year to reflect that this feature has been delayed until 2025.
